Havenstreet Remembers

Award-winning journalist, Keith Newbery MBE, is writing and compiling a history of life in Havenstreet over the years.

Keith’s affection for Havenstreet – where he spent much of his childhood and where his late father was born – has been extensively chronicled in his weekly column in the County Press.

All profits from the book will go to St Peter’s Church, Havenstreet – but your help will be required if the project is to be a success.

Keith is looking for old photographs of life in the village to be included in the book – so ransack your family albums and bring the pictures along to a special meeting to be held in the Community Centre on Sunday, March 11, between 2-5pm.

This will be a perfect opportunity for a get-together and light refreshments will be served.

School photographs, those taken at village events, those of sports teams from years gone by, WI outings, church occasions,  war-time photos or even family pictures of former village residents – the list is endless and all will be welcomed.

Please be sure to name as many people as possible in the photographs, and place them in an envelope clearly marked with your address so they can be returned safely.

Written memories will also be gratefully received, though Keith is willing to come along and interview those reluctant to put pen to paper!

Havenstreet is a wonderful village full of memories and it is time they were recorded for posterity.

See you on March 11!

Elm Tree Project

The Parish Council have received a request for help from the Elms Project on the Isle of Wight, as follows:
Thanks to funding from the Isle of Wight AONB, we have embarked on a project all about elms on the Isle of Wight.

As part of this project we are trying to identify if there are any decent sized specimens that show little or no sign of infection.
If you know of any, please let me know where they are so i can come and take photos and plot.

Also, have you been involved in planting any diesease-resistant cultivars? We are not interested in individual plantings, but if you have planted them in any numbers, it would be great to know the species, the site and the success.
Please contact Carol Flux on 01983 535836 or carol.flux@naturalenterprise.co.uk
