Parish Council

Havenstreet and Ashey Parish Council was created on the 1st April 2006 to represent approximately 700 residents across the rural parish.

The present Councillors were elected to serve a three year term on 1st May 2006. The next elections are scheduled to take place in May 2009. All Councillors give their time voluntarily and do not receive any payments or allowances for the work they do in the community .

The aims of the Parish Council are to:

  • promote and represent the community's views and aspirations at local, county, regional and national level.
  • To serve those who live, work or visit the Parish.
  • To promote growth of Council activities where new services can be taken on effectively and efficiently.
  • To strive to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Parish.

The Parish Council is currently responsible for:

  • The provision of the Parish Council’s Website
  • Commenting on all planning applications for the parish
  • The provision of a quarterly newsletter
  • Creating a Parish Plan
  • Lobbying relevant agencies and third parties on issues of the day that are important to the community

    Parish Council Meetings

    Full Council meetings are held monthly throughout the year on the first Thursday of the month, with the exception of August. At these meetings, all Councillors are involved in all policy decisions of the Council.  Meetings will be in the Havenstreet Steam Railway function room or at the Community Centre, Main Road, Havenstreet on alternate months.

    All of the meetings held are open to the public (with the exception of sections of the meetings which are dedicated to confidential items). There is an opportunity for the public to speak at all Council meetings at 7pm prior to the formal meeting commencing. Unless otherwise stated, all meetings commence at 7.00pm
