What does the Parish Council Do?
The Isle of Wight Council is a unitary authority (since 1995) and the Island is fully parished with 33 P&TCs serving an electorate of 111,149. The Isle of Wight Council has, since 2005 had a commitment to support and develop P&TCs. To develop channels of communication to build relationships and trust across the tiers of local government. The Isle of Wight Council involve P & TCs as much as possible in local issues and in the decisions affecting their communities.
The Havenstreet and Ashey Parish Council is funded by the annual Precept (the amount collected from ratepayers as a component of the Council Tax). The amount for 2011/12 is £7778
The Parish Council consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and four Councillors. The Chairman and Vice-Chair are elected annually and the Councillors on a four yearly term.

The Council welcomes comments, questions and feedback about it’s business, including:
Roads,Signage, traffic markings, potholes, hedges to be cut back at road junctions, new traffic schemes and road closures.
Dog Bins and provision of dog bags
Reports to the Council regarding problems with footpaths and bridleways.
Comments to Planning regarding applications for planning permissions
Maintains benches and notice boards in Parish
Provides notice boards for Ashey and Havenstreet
Holds monthly Parish Surgery at Havenstreet Community Centre where issues concerning the Parish can be raised and information provided on a wide range of issues.
Link with the Police on any issues affecting the area.
Provides Parish Newsletter to keep residents updated on local issues
Supplies a Community Christmas Tree
Provides communication with any issues concerning the area such as events including The Bestival and Havenstreet Steam Railway
Keeps the Parish updated on matters from the Isle of Wight Council and reports the Parish views back regarding Transport issues, Forward Planning etc
Recreation Ground – though maintained by the Isle of Wight Council, the Parish Council would like to provide additional play equipment and seating areas for the use of the residents.
Development of new community website
Opinion surveys in order to establish the needs and requirements of the residents.
